Leupold GX-3iNew to the scene for 2012 is the Leupold GX-3i, the successor to one of our favorite range finders, the Leupold GX-3.

While we still love the GX-3, we went “ga-ga” over the GX-3i after playing just a few holes with it. It has all the features of its predecessor, but it’s faster, more accurate, and, at the same (list) price, it offers better value for the money. (More on price below.)

In short, it’s a better device than the GX-3. Any golfer looking to buy a laser range finder really must give serious consideration to the GX-3i. We recommend it without reservation.

Leupold GX-2Recently we wrote a comparison between the Leupold GX-1 and Leupold GX-3 to help Christmas shoppers choose between the two for the golf fanatics on their lists. Here we present the same comparison between the Leupold GX-2 and Leupold GX-4, which are nearly the same range finders as the GX-1 and GX-3, except that they are not tournament-legal. The GX-2 and GX-4 both provide slope-adjusted distance readings, and both have Leupold’s True Golf RangeTM (TGR) and Club SelectorTM features, which go beyond slope compensation.

Leupold GX-4As with the GX-1/GX-3 comparison, we’re not going to recommend one range finder over the other. Both the Leupold GX-2 and GX-4 are worthy devices, and the differences between them are pretty much the same as the differences between the GX-1 and GX-3. Either would be a fine addition to any golfer’s arsenal. The choice between these two will come down to personal taste, and cost, as the GX-4 is more expensive than the GX-2.

Leupold GX-1The Leupold GX-1 and Leupold GX-3 are two of our favorite range finders. With the Christmas buying season upon us, we thought it would be helpful to write a comparison post to help our readers pick the right model for the golfer(s) on their Christmas shopping lists, which might very well include themselves!

Leupold GX-3Unlike our previous golf range finder comparisons posts, we won’t be picking a winner or making a recommendation here. Both range finders are excellent choices and are very similar in terms of features. You seriously could not go wrong choosing either of them. The choice really comes down to personal preference, and we won’t presume to dictate that to anybody.

Bushnell Tour V2 vs Callaway LR550 - Tour V2The Bushnell Tour V2 and the Callaway LR550 are two very popular range finders. Even though they have some very similar features there are some significant differences. It is always helpful to see two products side-by-side, and we’ve had requests for this comparison, so here it is.

First off, the Callaway LR550 is not offered in a slope edition. So if you’re looking for a range finder that can provide you slope-adjusted distances, you can scratch the LR550 off your list and stop reading this piece. Instead, we suggest you take a look at our Bushnell Tour V2 vs. Leupold GX-1/GX2 and Bushnell Pro 1600 vs Bushnell Tour V2 comparisons, if you want to see how the Tour V2 stacks up against other popular slope-compensating range finders.

Leupold GX-4 with Smart KeyThe Leupold GX-4 is Leupold’s top-of-the-line range finder. Functionally, it’s equivalent to the GX-2, with advanced features such as slope compensation, Prism Lock, and True Golf Range™. But, like the Leupold GX-3, it sports a sturdier, solid aluminum frame and a red OLED display that’s very easy to read against dark backgrounds.

It’s also every bit as sexy looking.

Bushnell Pro 1600 vs Bushnell Tour V2 - Pro 1600The Bushnell Pro 1600 and the Bushnell Tour V2 are a couple of the more popular laser golf range finders. Those seriously considering a Bushnell model often ask about the differences between these two units, so we thought it would be helpful to provide a side-by-side comparison of the two.

Leupold GX-3 ReviewUPDATE
In February 2012, Leupold introduced the successor to the GX-3, the GX-3i. The new model has all the features of the GX-3 plus some very nice upgrades. Read our Leupold GX-3i review for details.

The Leupold GX-3 is the latest in Leupold’s line of tournament-legal laser range finders. Introduced in 2010, it sports a more durable frame than its sister device, the Leupold GX-1.

It’s also flashier eye candy, and is sure to draw some “ooh’s “ and “aah’s” from your buddies when you first unveil it on the course.

The GX-3 can provide distances up to 800 yards and can cut right through fog and rain to provide accurate measurements. This range finder has become a favorite for many golfers and it is highly recommended for anybody in the market for a new range finder.

Bushnell Tour V2 vs Leupold GX-1 - Tour V2 StandardThe Bushnell Tour V2 and Leupold GX-1 and GX-2 are probably the most popular of the compact laser range finders. Anyone looking for a smaller unit that can be used with one hand is no doubt doing research on these models. So, we thought it would be helpful to compare them side-by-side.

In this comparison, the Bushnell Tour V2 Standard edition is up against the Leupold GX-1. Where slope features are mentioned, we’re talking about the V2’s Slope edition against the Leupold GX-2.

Bushnell Pro 1600 Laser Range FinderThe Bushnell Pro 1600, introduced early in 2009, has proven to be the laser range finder to beat. With a wider field of view than competing units, 7x magnification, and pin-locking technology, it has earned a place on the short list of any golfer considering a laser range finder. We wholeheartedly recommend it.

Leupold GX-2The Leupold GX-2 is a snazzier version of the GX-1. Visually, the only difference is it’s silver color. But the similarity ends there. For the GX-2, Leupold has added two useful features – True Golf Range™ (TGR™) and Club Selector.

The Leupold GX-2 succeeds the GX-II (introduced in 2008). Like the GX-1′s evolution from the GX-I, Prism Lock and Fog Mode are new additions from the earlier version.

Callaway LR550 Laser Range Finder-YellowThe Callaway LR550 laser range finder is one that has been around a few years. The device holds a lot of appeal to many golfers due to its sturdy design and ease of use.

The optics employed by the LR550 have been developed by Nikon, long known for high-quality optics in the photography field. We suppose Callaway decided to take the short route to get into the laser range finder market by teaming up with Nikon rather than try to develop the optics themselves. Smart move, in our opinion.

Though it doesn’t sport all the bells and whistles found on other range finders, the Callaway LR550 merits serious consideration if you’re considering adding a laser range finder to your arsenal. You just have to get past the funky colors.

Leupold GX-1-Laser Range FinderThe Leupold GX-1 is Leupold’s entry-level offering in the laser golf range finder market. But don’t let the term “entry-level” misguide you. The GX-1 is an excellent range finder that has a strong following among it’s user base, with good reason.

Officially introduced in May 2010, the Leupold GX-1 is the successor to the GX-I (introduced in 2008). Aside from the switch from Roman to Arabic numerals in its name, the Leupold GX-1 offers new features not found in its predecessor.
